JANAE Mackrell is on the fast track to success after earning a spot on the Australian team for the 2017 Track and Field Athletics tour in Canada.
The Maribyrnong College student, 15, who trains five times a week, said juggling school and sport could be exhausting but she was driven by a desire to compete on the national stage.
She recently finished third in the 1500m Athletics Victoria State Championships, and was a winning member of Maribyrnong College’s Victorian All Schools Cross Country team,
Janae said she got her first taste for athletics in primary school and was hooked.
“I started doing running at school because of sporting carnivals,” Janae said.
“I just kept going further each year, and competed at higher levels.”
While she said the best part about athletics was making new friends, Janae is determined to climb the sporting rankings.
She will travel to Canada in a few weeks to be part of the Track and Field Athletics tour.
Janae is a Maribyrnong Leader Local Sports Stars nominee.
